Columbia Reassures Students Hacked Data “Hasn’t Changed Much Since It Was Last Leaked”

NEW YORK — Columbia issued a statement Wednesday calming concerns over the ShinyHunters breach, noting that the compromised dataset is “substantially identical” to the one released in last August’s cyberattack, and the one before that.

“Your social security number, home address, and the dining hall PIN you set in 2022 have all been publicly available for some time now,” said an University Spokesperson on the condition of anonymity. “We encourage students to think of this less as a new breach and more as a reissue.”

At press time, the leaked file appeared to still list several students’ campus addresses as Carman Hall.
