Hilaria Baldwin just secured her first Oscar win.
The star, 41, won Best Actress at the 2025 Academy Awards on Sunday. The Massachusetts-born, Spanish-cosplaying actress exclaimed, “It just means so much to be represented and seen on a screen as a person who also just decided to do that one really important thing in Spanish just cause.”
She added, “I always dreamed of winning such an— how do you say… premio? But I didn’t think it was possible being a woman raised by white parents who moved to Spain, there are just so many borders blocking us from joining Latine film. However, the Emilia Pérez team provided me a space to showcase what happens when people with French ancestry attempt to speak Spanish.” Despite drawing criticism from the Mexican and queer community through awards season, as well as every other marginalized group targeted by co-star Karla Sofía Gascón on X, Emilia Pérez was the top contender at the Oscars Sunday night, leading the field with 13 nominations.
Note that Baldwin’s SAG-AFTRA registered name is still Hillary Lynn Hayward-Thomas and thus will appear on the award as such.
