Following the first snowfall of the semester, Barnard students have called a petition for the removal of an alleged snowman under the pretense of it being “too heteronormative.” Our sources show the snow-person was seen with “corncob and a button nose and an unsettling male gaze,” and reportedly “embodied patriarchal systems.”
The Change.org petition, titled “Freeze the Cis-tem”, has already garnered over 6,700 signatures. “We are not saying the snowperson can’t exist,” argued petition organizer Sally Shovelson, “we’re just saying they shouldn’t take up that much space on the lawn without a land-acknowledgement declaration.”
In response, Barnard College’s Office of Inclusive Climate Justice (OICJ) has issued a statement assuring its commitment to “melting the ice-ceiling.” Additionally, the office is imposing a hold on all registration requests if the new OICJ survey “Placid Prejudice” is not submitted.
As of press time, the snowperson has melted – but their message remains on thin ice.
