It will examine the relationship between obtaining a degree and remaining a part of this goddamn family, as well as the complex, dialectical concepts of being “mad” and/or “just disappointed.”

How do we assert our worth to those around us? How do we let people know we did NOT go to NYU? This course plans to interrogate name-dropping as a linguistic phenomenon across time, situating it within cocktail parties and the reproduction of social status. Students will familiarize themselves with cross-cultural strategies for making it seem like you just happened to mention where you did undergrad.
